Towne & Country Furniture has been family owned and operated since 1967. On September 1, 1967, Mr. James M. Van Devender Sr., bought the furniture store he had been managing from Mather's Furniture Co. He renamed it Quality Furniture. Quality Furniture was located at 905 Davis Avenue. In March of 1968, Mr. Van Devender opened a second location called Discount Furniture Co. Later that year, Quality Furniture was relocated to 502 Dauphin St. In 1972, the two stores merged into one and became Quality Furniture Co.
Mr. Van Devender opened Towne and Country in 1978, at it's present location in Eight Mile.
1980: Quality Furniture was closed on Dauphin St.
1995: Addition was added to Eight Mile location.
1996: Government St. location was opened on May 31.
1999: Citronelle location was opened.
2001: Fire burns Citronelle location down.
2003: Citronelle location is reopened.
2004: Government St. location was remodeled with with new store front.
2006: Tillman's Corner store is opened in November.
2013: Tillmans Corner location moves from Southview shopping to 4390 Rangeline Rd.
2016: Celebrating 49 years of business.
